Vivi Dot Around the Web

Hi there,

Our friend Melissa over at Bubby and Bean not only sat down to chat with Molly, but she's also hosting a $75 Vivi Dot gift certificate giveaway contest that we encourage you to enter!
It's super easy so you basically have no excuse not to.

In other internet news, Molly also did a guest post over on the lovely blog Little Chief Honeybee earlier this week. Feel free to check out her post about Seattle's Trailer Park Mall.

Hope you're enjoying the summer feelings that are creeping in, and are prepared for the cool stuff we've got planned in the next couple of months here at the Vivi Dot headquarters.

A Vivi Dot Studio Tour on Modcloth

I have a lot of big goals for Vivi Dot and one of them was to have my line carried in one of my favorite online shops, Modcloth. Before I even had time to come down from the high of realizing that goal I was emailed by Laura from their editorial team asking if they could feature my work space on their blog. It was one of the best emails I have ever received. It was an 'oh my god it's all happening' kind of moment. So now three weeks later I don't have to hold it in any longer, I'm on the Modcloth Blog!
I'd love for you to click the image above to hop on over to the Modcloth blog post and check it out. Once you're done there come on back here and see the rest of the photos from my house/studio tour.

This is a close up of the mustard yellow metal container they mention in the post.
I covered these cork boards in book pages and attached them all together. I use it as a scrapbook so I can display some of my favorite keepsakes.
These ikea drawers are just perfect for storing all of my inventory, packaging needs, etc.
We eventually want to knock down this wall in our kitchen so we didn't want to invest too much time making it pretty, but really needed to cover up the country classic chicken wallpaper that was on it. Our house came with chickens (fresh eggs!) and the previous owner was a big fan of carrying that theme over into the decor. I put up this temporary wallpaper and finished it off with an awesome portrait of Dolly Parton that I bought on Fab.com. I love the wallpaper so much that I also use it in my booth displays at trade shows.
I fell in love with this vintage thermos on Etsy and had to have it. The button arrangement was something I made for our guest book table at our wedding.
My husband is a video editor so this entryway represents us both (him with a vintage camera and me with a sewing machine that was my Great Grandmother's). The Turkish evil eye is from one of my best friend's who now lives in Turkey. It's believed to ward off evil and bad energy. I refinished and painted the table for a bright pop of color right when you walk in the door.
As you can tell from my line of accessories and my living room, I'm not afraid of some bright pops of color. Duncan and I fell in love with the pigeon portraits by Jay Ryan (The Bird Machine) at Bumbershoot. All three of them are up in our living room.
Thanks so much for coming on this tour with me and Modcloth!

The Etymology of Vivi Dot

You may or may not know that the name Vivi Dot stems from my family. My Mom's Mother's name was Vivienne (Vivi or Viv for short), and my Dad's Mom, Dorothy, goes by Dottie or Dot. Grandma Viv passed away not too long before I was born so I also have the pleasure of having her name as my middle name. I believe that all of the characteristics that drive me to run a creative based business come from my family so it seemed appropriate to incorporate them into my brand's name.

One day I was digging around in my Mom's jewelry drawer and came across this amazing pin back button. Believe it or not, this is my Grandma Vivi! It blows my mind that somewhere along the way she decided she needed a button made of herself.

My grandma was a button maker! Ahh I still get giddy and excited every time I think about that.

6 Month Flashback!

I just got the best email! Duncan has been working out of town this week and he surprised me with a video he edited of our wedding. It's our 6 month wedding anniversary tomorrow so this was an early present. I hadn't seen any of the footage and was especially eager to see the dance we did during the reception. He delivered!

It's tricky to see everything once the dancing portion gets started so turn up your screen brightness and check it out. I start it off and I'm joined by Mom, Pam, and sister, Emily. Next up two of my bridesmaids, Allie and Summer join me (we were in the same hip hop dance group in San Francisco). Next up all of the rest of my bridesmaids join in. Finally, all of the dance teachers from the studio where my mom and I also teach join in on the fun. It's tricky to tell how many people are actually dancing in unison at the end but it's about twenty!

I hope you enjoy it!

Retro Swimwear - Yes Please!

I ran into one of my favorite local shops, Velouria, yesterday and instantly fell in love with all of the cute swimwear they had for sale. I was elated to hear that they are made by a local Seattle designer named Angela Holstrom. Her line, Frankie Four, is like nothing I've ever seen before. She re-purposes the most gorgeous vintage stretch fabrics into flattering one piece and bikini swimming suits. To top it off they are pretty darn affordable (if I remember right, the high waisted two piece I loved most was $98). Like most people, I'm never too excited to get into a swimming suit. These just might change my mind!

I'll take one of each please! Which one is your favorite?

Shop Update

Oh, hi! Lily here.

You might've noticed that we went live this morning with a bunch of new Vivi Dot stuff, just in time for Spring. 150+ new pieces later, we couldn't be more pleased to show y'all what's new, so spread the word, internet mavens! Here are a handful of new items that I am especially drawn to.

My wardrobe is primarily of the gray, black and white variety, so being obsessed with these pieces just validates something I've known for a long time: I'm a coy color junkie. Special shout out to an oldie but goodie: Burger time hair pins. Definitely gives off a 50's bad girl I-hang-out-at-a-diner-and-make-fun-of-the-boys vibe, don't you think?
