The Next Big Thing In Coffee?

I really love being back in Seattle and there are so many amazing perks to living in this city. Oh, did you hear a big BUT coming on? Well, you guessed it- I have a gripe. You likely know that this city is known for being a bit coffee crazy. It's the birthplace of Starbucks and Tully's and there were new independent drive through espresso stands popping up left and right before the rest of the country had even heard about the latte/mocha/cappuccino craze. Now that I'm back I've sadly found that most of these little drive through spots have since been turned into bikini barista establishments. You heard that right- the people making your coffee are wearing bikinis. I'm sure there are a lot of strong opinions on this topic and different ways to look at it (are they degrading themselves, or empowering themselves, etc, etc), but I gotta say I just don't like it. I don't feel comfortable ordering my coffee from you if you have all your goods out on display. Is this really the only way that the little guys can compete with the big bad corporations these days? I guess everyone has their angle, but I know for each customer they gain because of the assets they display they've got to be losing others like me.

Maybe I should open my own stand catering to those who shy away from the bikini barista joints. I'd staff it with hot, sensitive, book loving men. Picture the steamy new werewolf from True Blood. He wouldn't even have to take off his shirt! Just set down that book when I drive up, sell me some coffee and ask me about my feelings now and then.

Miss Molly

As of last Friday I'm officially a dance teacher again! I was in a hip hop dance group when I moved to San Francisco, and taught hip hop classes for a while down there too, but it just wasn't the same as teaching at my home town studio here in Seattle. I have a tap class and a hip hop class on Fridays, both with 9-11 year olds and teen hip hop class on Mondays. Now if I could just skip ahead to when I can put names with all their cute little faces!

Sometimes I think I'm crazy for taking on more instead of less, but who am I kidding, it's just what I do. An added bonus is that my Mom teaches there on the same days so I've automatically got two visits with her built into the week!Pin It

Let's Catch Up!

Poor, sleepy little Dot Girl Blog. She's been out like a light for weeks now, but she's up and ready to go now so let's catch up! What a few weeks it has been! I think it's best to fill you in by sharing some photos of what's transpired.

Duncan and I packed up our life in San Francisco and said goodbye to a city we love. Goodbye San FranciscoI was in our Yaris with Olive, Indy, and this little guy as my co-pilot: co-pilotDuncan and Ciccio became truck drivers: Truck Driver CiccioMany, many hours and one overnight in Oregon later, we hit the Emerald City: Welcome to SeattleWe were all happy to have made, but I think Olive was the most excited to get out of that car: Olive Meets Her HouseWe went out to a nice dinner and to an Autolux show downtown to celebrate our arrival and my birthday: The NoodleDay two in Seattle was all Vivi Dot prep as I readied myself for a trip to Las Vegas later than night. I was on my way to the POOL Trade Show and was excited to share my new items with all of the buyers. Here's a little look at my booth this time around: Vivi Dot BoothAfter another successful show I was so ready to head back to my new home to start getting organized. First up was getting my desk area set up so I'd have a nice place to settle into working my day job from home. Desk ViewSo much Vivi Dot stuff to organize:Fabric StacksThe kitchen was also a priority:KitchenSo now we're back in the swing of making delicious dinners. I discovered just how good red cabbage can be! Especially on fish tacos: Fish TacosAnd just last night we made the delicious pizza. We caramelized onions from the Ballard Farmer's Market and spread them all over the dough instead of the usual sauce. We piled on mozzarella, potato slices and fresh rosemary. It was just perfect finished off with fresh grated gruyere cheese. Yummmmm: Pizza TimeThanks for catching up with me! What have I missed while I've been MIA? Please let me know in the comments.Pin It
